2006-2007 ISU MOCK TRIAL TEAM

On October 28, 2006, ISU's two teams competed in Quincy University's Riverside Classic Invitational Tournament where the Red Squad (#980) finished 3rd and the White team (#981 finished 13th.  Abisola Adekoya, Jeannie LaBarbara, and Stefanie Pipis won Outstanding Attorney awards, while Abisola and Brandon Kelsey took home Outstanding Witness honors.

The following weekend, November 3-5, the teams participated in the fifth annual Illinois State University Invitational Mock Trial Tournament.  Team 980 finished.in 10th place, while Team 981 received honorable mention.  Abisola Adekoya again won individual honors in both the attorney and witness categories. 

In February, 2007, ISU's teams were assigned to the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament hosted by Lewis University in Joliet, IL.  Team 980 ended up facing the teams that eventually finished in first, second and third place in the tournment.  One of them, University of Chicago, ended up in the top five in the country.  After going 4-2 in the first three rounds, Team 980 lost the final round by a total of 9 out of a possible 280 points and ended up in 8th place. John Mikrut won an Outstanding Witness Award.

2005-2006 ISU MOCK TRIAL TEAM

The 2005-06 ISU Mock Trial team participated in the Illinois State Invitational Tournament, Nov. 19-21, the Mid-Missouri Invitational Tournament at U. of Missouri, Jan. 21-22, the Regional Qualifying Tournament hosted by Bradley University, and the National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. This marked the fourth straight year ISU sent a team to the top national tournament. .  

At the National Championship Tournament, ISU's Team 980 earned Honorable Mention status for the second year in a row by finishing 13th. ISU had a 4-2 record against Princeton, Cornell and Duke, they were stopped by Harvard, which went on to win the division before losing to Virginia in the finals.  In other words, had we defeated Harvard, we would have been in the top bracket in our division instead of Harvard.   So, with a 4-4 record we finished in 13th place. 

ISU was the ONLY team in the nation to have 3 students, Abisola Adekoya, Josh Rinker and Tess Green, receiving individual All-American Awards: .

2004-2005 ISU MOCK TRIAL TEAM

The 2004-05 ISU Mock Trial team is made up of five veterans and nine newcomers.  So far this season they have participated in the Illinois State Invitational Tournament, Nov. 19-21, the Mid-Missouri Invitational Tournament at U. of Missouri, Jan. 21-22, and the Regional Qualifying Tournament hosted by Lewis University on Feb. 19-20.  

The Red team finished 6th at the Mid-Missouri Invitational and third at the  regional qualifying tournament in Joliet.  Their strong showing in the regional qualified them to go on to compete in the National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa April 8-10  This was the third straight year ISU had sent a team to the top national tournament.

The 2003-04 ISU Mock Trial team was made up of seven veterans and nine newcomers.  They participated in three invitational tournaments (ISU, Lewis and Loras), before competing in the Joliet regional tournament.  At Joliet, the Red team finished 2nd and went on to compete in the National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.  The White team qualified to go on to national tournament in Tampa, Florida.

2002-03 MOCK TRIAL TEAM

During the course of the 2002-03 year, ISU's Red and White squads competed at the First ISU Invitational Mock Trial Tournament in November, the Northwestern University Invitational Tournament in January, and the AMTA Regional Qualifying Tournament in Joliet.  

The Red squad went on to win the 2003 National Tournament of the American Mock Trial Association in March in St. Paul, Minnesota.  This tournament involved 52 teams competing in two separate divisions.  After taking first place in the Paul Anderson division, ISU went on to defeat a team from Gonzaga University (Spokane, Washington) in the Championship Round.  By virtue of this first place finish the Red squad went on to compete in AMTA's Gold Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa

2001-2002 MOCK TRIAL TEAM

The 2001-2002 Mock Trial team competed in the Eastern Illinois and Northwestern University invitational mock trail tournaments before participating in the regional qualifying tournament in Joliet, Illinois.  At that tournament both teams qualified to go on to compete in the American Intercollegiate Mock Trial Tournament, in St. Petersburg, Florida where the Red team finished 2nd and the White team finished 7th.

This team finished second at the Midwest Regional Mock Trial Tournament held at Bradley University and went on to compete in the Championship division of the American Mock Trial Association's National tournament held at Drake University.
